Free Glucometer

For many diabetics a free glucometer is the only way to ensure they are able to manage their disease. The daily cost of diabetic testing supplies is high and there is never a day when testing supplies aren't needed. This creates a financial burden on many diabetics, even those with insurance, because all costs are not covered. Fortunately, there are many programs available that provide a free glucometer to financially needy diabetics. Some programs also donate testing supplies or offer them at discounted rates.

Obtaining a Free Glucometer

In order to receive free glucometer diabetics must find a nonprofit agency offering diabetic supplies for free, apply for Medicare, or else find another route to a free glucometer. Many cities have free healthcare clinics where financially needy individuals can visit and obtain a free glucometer. Supplies certainly are not unlimited and there are often times wait limits. However, there is help available for those who need it.

Medicare and a Free Glucometer

Medicare recipients who have type 1 or 2 diabetes and are US residents will be able to receive a free glucometer. Many diabetics actually qualify for Medicare coverage and don't realize it. Individuals with diabetes should look into Medicare coverage and apply if they meet the criterion. Receiving a free glucometer could be life saving for some diabetics.

Free Glucometer Options

Individuals applying for a free glucometer through Medicare may be able to choose a Freestyle Flash, Ascencia Elite XCL, Ascencia Breeze, as well as many others. Medicare does not cover all free glucometer options, however, so diabetics must check to see what is covered first. Other non profits and health clinics may offer different free glucometer options.

Free Glucometer Supplies

While a free glucometer is necessary for the management of many lower income individuals' diabetes so are free glucometer testing supplies. Those with Medicare will qualify for free glucometer however those with other types of insurance will need to find out what their policies cover. Individuals without insurance or Medicare will need to seek help from free clinics.

Apply for a Free Glucometer

Those in need of a free glucometer without Medicare should apply for the insurance program as soon as possible. It's likely they will be able to receive the coverage they need should they meet the guidelines set forth.
